Poker Tips For Beginners
There are various different types of poker games, from Texas Hold’em to 5 or 7 card stud, but in all poker games once you have mastered the basic rules the fun part comes in learning how to play better. Here are five top tips to help you expand your knowledge of the game and help you play poker online as a PRO.
Tip 1 – Never Play Drunk
If you are playing in a big casino , chances are the drinks will either be complimentary, or at least very cheap and it is easy to get carried away and over indulge. The same goes for when you are round a friend’s house. Poker is a game of nerves and wit, and getting plastered is a sure fire way to lose your edge and all your chips. A couple of drinks can help you relax and enjoy the atmosphere, but it can also make you over confident and even reckless. Make sure you know your limits before you drink and play poker, especially if there are high stakes involved. Same applies to online poker - whether it is everest poker or pacific poker.
Tip 2 – Bluffing is not the only tactic
A lot of beginners feel that poker is all about bluffing, but this is only one of the tactics available in the game, and really only works in very few circumstances. Some players are impossible to bluff, so if you are a beginner it’s probably better not to even attempt this tactic, as it could lead you in deeper than you mean to go.
Tip 3 - Sometimes less is more
Successful poker players are those that know when to fold and call it quits. Playing on in any gambling game can often lead to losing more money than gaining, so don’t just stay in the game for the sake of it. If you are still playing on in a game simply because you have already staked a lot in the pot, then fold. You should only play on if you had a very good starting hand, and are going well to setting up a winning spread. Experts call it the best poker strategy.
Tip 4 - Always pay attention to the whole table
When you are a beginner, its hard enough concentrating on your own hand, let alone the rest of the cards being played, but this is a vital part of improving your game. For example in 7 card stud you need to know what other people have folded, and what cards are showing before you even consider calling out opponents. Also you need to pay attention to the other players, especially if you are sitting out of a hand, as this will help you build tactics for when you next play against them.
Tip 5 - Know your limits
Poker limits can vary wildly, from low start in bets for beginners and those playing for fun, to some serious high stakes games that will require a certain level of skill and finance to buy in to. Work out your own bankroll before you start playing and stick to it. If you are winning money on the lower stakes games, don’t be tempted to jump straight up to the next level, if you can only finance this jump with those previous winnings alone – what will you do when these winnings run out? Although it’s true that the higher stakes games come with higher prize pots, the flip side is that the amount of money you can lose is higher too. Never play outside your financial limits or with money you cannot replace if you lose.
