Latest Poker News from London

London is soon to be the venue for the Poker Den, one of the largest cash games in the world, which is a 36 hour nonstop poker marathon that starts on 30 September 2008. Each player will need a buy in of at least $10,000, and blinds will be starting at minimum of $25 and increasing throughout the event.

Players are able to cash out at any time, but some players have boasted in the past of going the full 36 hours without a break. The Poker Den started back in 2005, and was created by PartyPoker and Matchroom Sport. Big names have joined the tables in the past including Phill Hellmuth and Roland De Wolfe and top players tipped for this year include Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, and Jon Kalmar.

Also on the cards for London in 2008 is the PokerStars.com European Poker Tour, which stops by on 1-5 October. This event promises to be huge, with a guaranteed first prize of £1 million , which is nearly double that of last years event, when Joseph Mouawad from Lebanon walked away with £611,520 when he claimed first place.

This is the fifth year of the incredibly popular European Poker Tour, and the London leg is being held at the infamous Victoria Casino, which is one of the oldest and largest casino venues in the UK and is situated right in the heart of London.

This casino can seat up to 500 poker players during an event, and also is reputed to have the largest punto banco (baccarat) tables in the world, capable of seating up to 36 players at a time. Players can buy directly into the European Poker Tour event for £5,400, and have the chance to compete amongst world champions, top British and European players and amateur online qualifiers. :)
